ORIGINAL SIGNED OIL PAINTING – STEPHEN HAWKINS – 1987 An atmospheric original oil painting signed “Stephen Hawkins” and dated 1987 lower right. The painting depicts a striking old tree standing in an open rural landscape, with broken fencing, wintery fields and small birds in the distance. The restrained blue-grey sky and finely painted bare branches give the work a particularly appealing, slightly melancholic character. ARTIST & INTERESTING REAR LABEL The artist is identified from the clearly visible signature “Stephen Hawkins 1987”. Of particular interest, an old address label remains attached to the reverse of the painting. It reads: MR S. P. HAWKINS BEGGARS LODGE 17 CHALDON COMMON ROAD CHALDON SURREY The label may relate directly to the artist, given the matching surname and initials, but I have not been able to establish this conclusively. It is therefore offered as an interesting piece of possible provenance rather than a confirmed artist address. DETAILS Artist: Stephen Hawkins Date: 1987 Medium: Original oil painting Subject: English rural landscape / tree Signed: Stephen Hawkins, lower right Painting size: approx. 16 x 20 cm Frame: Vintage wooden frame with gilt inner detail This is an original hand-painted oil, not a print or reproduction. The characterful wooden frame complements the painting beautifully and has age-related wear consistent with a vintage piece. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description. A very appealing small British landscape painting with the added interest of the period Hawkins address label preserved on the reverse.
