  • Jakob Stucki Langnau Hand-Painted Fish Ceramic Jug, Vintage Folk Art Pottery

  • £42.00

:  at  £42.00  each

A wonderfully characterful vintage lidded jug by Swiss potter Jakob Stucki of Langnau. The rounded ceramic body is decorated with a lively procession of hand-painted fish, bubbles and flowing aquatic forms in muted yellow, blue, green and russet tones. A coordinating domed lid, striped neck and sculptural finial complete this unusual piece. The base is signed “J. Stucki, Langnau.” Jakob Stucki was associated with the celebrated pottery tradition of Langnau in Switzerland, where richly decorated earthenware had been produced for centuries. His distinctive work combines that folk-art heritage with a playful mid-century character. CONDITION There is a chip/loss to the pouring spout, clearly shown in the photographs. There is also some age-related surface and rim wear. The lid remains present and the jug displays beautifully, but it is being sold as a decorative collector’s piece rather than for practical use. Please study all photographs carefully before purchasing. MEASUREMENTS Height: approximately 20.5 cm Diameter at widest point: approximately 16 cm A striking and highly decorative example of signed Swiss studio pottery—particularly appealing to collectors of European ceramics, folk art and unusual fish-themed pieces. Vintage items have lived previous lives and may show signs of age that form part of their history and character.
