  • Vintage Italian Art Glass Jug: Purple Marbled Cello Style Sculptural Vase

  • £52.00

:  at  £52.00  each

A fabulous large vintage Italian art glass jug with a wonderfully dramatic sculptural shape and beautiful plum-purple, lilac and white colouring suspended within the glass. This is a substantial piece, measuring approximately 24 cm tall with an impressively broad 25 cm base. The exaggerated swept rim and enormous applied clear glass handle give it a particularly striking silhouette. Rather than being painted onto the surface, the colour is incorporated into the glass itself. Dense clouds and veins of purple, smoky lilac and opaque white spread across the rounded base before being drawn upwards into long, fine streaks through the neck. The effect changes considerably as the piece catches the light. ATTRIBUTION The jug is unmarked and no original label remains. Its distinctive form, applied clear handle, internal colouring and textured glass have been compared with labelled examples attributed to Cello, Italy. For that reason I am listing it as attributed to Cello rather than claiming a confirmed maker. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks or other damage. Please see the photographs, which form part of the description. MEASUREMENTS Height: approximately 24 cm Width across base: approximately 25 cm STYLE & DISPLAY This is one of those pieces that really doesn't need anything else around it. Its scale and sweeping profile make it a fantastic statement piece for a sideboard, console table, shelving or a collection of vintage and mid-century art glass. Although made in the form of a jug, I would regard it primarily as decorative art glass or a sculptural vase rather than everyday tableware. A beautiful piece for anyone drawn to Italian decorative glass, mid-century interiors and unusual vintage glass with real presence.
