:  at  £83.00  each

A superb Victorian pressed glass celery vase in the Greek Key pattern registered by James Derbyshire in 1865. The design was registered on 15 August 1865 under design number 189066 and is recognised for its bold Greek Key decoration, contrasting frosted and clear glass and elaborate pedestal form. This example stands approximately 22 cm high and measures approximately 13 cm across. It is particularly substantial and heavy, with a frosted body decorated with clear Greek Key panels, scalloped borders, vertical ribbing, a faceted knopped stem and deeply moulded pedestal foot. Celery vases were fashionable Victorian tablewares, designed to present celery upright at the dining table at a time when the vegetable was regarded as sufficiently desirable to warrant its own specialist serving vessel. No registration lozenge is visible on this example, so while the pattern corresponds with the registered James Derbyshire design, the attribution is made from the design and construction rather than from a visible registration mark. Condition is excellent for its age, with no chips or cracks noted jsta small scratch to frosted area Measurements: 22 cm high Approximately 13 cm wide A wonderful piece of early Victorian pressed glass and a particularly decorative survivor of nineteenth-century British tableware.
