Vintage Peter Fishley Holland Studio Pottery Vase A striking and substantial hand-thrown British studio pottery vase by Peter Fishley Holland, from the celebrated Fishley Holland pottery family. Standing approximately 8 inches (20 cm) high, the vase has a beautifully balanced rounded form with a softly flared neck. The upper section is finished in a wonderful muted blue-green/celadon glaze, contrasting with the earthy textured body below. The lower section is particularly attractive, with deeply incised linear decoration giving the vase a wonderfully tactile, architectural quality. The base carries Peter Fishley Holland's distinctive impressed FH monogram. Peter worked at the family pottery at Clevedon during the 1960s and 1970s before subsequently working in the Scottish Borders. The style and mark are consistent with his earlier studio work, although I have not been able to establish an exact production date for this particular piece. MAKER: Peter Fishley Holland ORIGIN: British PERIOD: Vintage, probably 1970s–1980s HEIGHT: Approx. 8 inches / 20 cm MARK: Impressed FH monogram to base MATERIAL: Studio pottery / ceramic CONDITION: Please see photographs for the exact condition and finish. ABOUT PETER FISHLEY HOLLAND Peter Fishley Holland comes from one of Britain's remarkable pottery dynasties, representing the seventh generation of the Fishley Holland family to work as potters. He worked at the family's Clevedon Pottery in Somerset from the late 1960s, continuing a ceramic tradition extending back through generations of the Fishley family. Following the closure of the Clevedon pottery in the late 1970s, Peter moved to the Scottish Borders and continued making pottery there. After a lengthy period away from ceramics, Peter returned to the wheel and continues the family's pottery tradition today. His earlier work is particularly appealing to collectors of post-war British studio pottery, combining traditional throwing skills with distinctive glazes, textures and incised decoration. A lovely example of British studio pottery with both a strong decorative presence and a fascinating connection to an important English pottery family. Ideal for a collector of British studio ceramics, mid-century and 1970s pottery, or simply as a beautiful statement vase for a contemporary interior. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Vintage handmade studio pottery naturally displays variations associated with its method of production.
