GUS MABLESON STUDIO POTTERY – SET OF THREE GRADUATED JUGS A wonderfully tactile set of three vintage studio pottery jugs by respected potter Gus Mableson. These three wheel-thrown stoneware jugs form a graduated set, from the charming little individual jug through to the substantial larger pitcher. Each has the same beautifully understated earthy glaze, combining warm oatmeal, honey and muted green tones with the natural variations that make handmade studio pottery so appealing. The simple, confident forms and generously pulled handles give the group a distinctly Arts & Crafts feel, while still looking wonderfully contemporary. Each piece bears Mableson's impressed GM monogram. They are particularly appealing displayed together as a graduated group, and I have therefore chosen to keep the three together rather than separate them. ABOUT GUS MABLESON Gus Mableson is a respected British-born studio potter with a long association with both British and Irish ceramics. He worked in Northamptonshire during the 1970s and later became an important figure in Irish studio ceramics. From 1991 he was associated with Grennan Mill Craft School in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland, and served as Director of Pottery Design for the Crafts Council of Ireland. As well as producing his own work, Mableson played an important role in ceramic education and the development of later generations of Irish studio potters. His work is recognisable for its strong functional forms, restrained natural glazes and emphasis on the qualities of the clay itself. DETAILS Maker: Gus Mableson Material: Stoneware / studio pottery Quantity: Three jugs Style: British & Irish studio pottery Decoration: Earth-toned glazed stoneware Mark: Impressed GM potter's monogram Period: Vintage, 20th century CONDITION Two are in perfect vintage co edition and one has a hair line crack as shown. As individually handmade studio pottery, variations in glaze, colour, texture and firing are part of the character of the pieces rather than manufacturing faults. Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the description. A particularly lovely opportunity to acquire three related pieces of Gus Mableson's work as one collection – equally appealing to a studio pottery collector or simply displayed together in a rustic or contemporary interior.
